A council or agency rarely has just one building. There’s a depot, a works yard, libraries, halls for hire, change rooms and offices, spread across the area. Keys go to staff, contractors, cleaners, sporting clubs and hall hirers, and some of those people change every season.

The same problems turn up again and again:

• Nobody has a clear list of who holds which key.
• A contractor finished the job and kept the key.
• A hall needs to open for a Saturday booking without staff driving out to unlock it.
• The records room or server cupboard should only open for a few people.
• Public doors get heavy use and wear out light-duty hardware.

A master key system gives the facilities officer one key for everything, team leaders a key for their building, and hirers or contractors a key for one door. When a key goes missing, you can usually rekey the doors it opened rather than every lock you own.

For doors where the list of people changes often, like the hall or the depot gate, access control is easier. A card, fob or keypad code can be switched off without touching the lock. We also fit electric strikes and magnetic locks on entries and gates, safes for cash and records, and deadbolts and padlocks for yards and stores.
