A practice manager or facilities team should be able to answer that straight away. It gets harder because a healthcare site never fully closes. Shifts change overnight, agency staff come and go, and in aged care some residents can’t be let out an exit on their own.

The front door is open to the public by day and locked down at night. Behind it are doors only some staff should open: the medication room, patient records, consulting rooms, the server room, change rooms and the linen and equipment stores. When someone leaves, you want their access gone that night without rekeying the building.

A master key system sets up key levels for nursing staff, clinicians, admin, cleaners and contractors. The drug room and records sit on their own keys, outside the general master.

On doors with high staff turnover, access control works better than keys. A lost card or fob is cancelled, not rekeyed. We fit electric strikes and magnetic locks on entries and ward doors and tie them into the card system, so staff can badge through with one hand on a trolley.
