Good to know
Why a cut key won’t start the car
Most modern car keys have a transponder chip in the head. The car reads that chip before it lets the engine start. A key with the right blade but the wrong chip will turn in the ignition and do nothing else.
So a new car key is two jobs. We cut the blade, then program the chip to your car. If the key has buttons, we program the remote too.
A spare is easier if you still have one working key. We copy the blade and add the new chip to the car.
Two things to tell us when you call
- The make, model and year of the car
- Whether you still have a key that starts it
Programming time depends on the make and model, so you may need to book. Ring first and we’ll tell you how long it takes for your car.
Holden Commodore keys
We supply keys for these Holden Commodores. For the VE and VF you need to bring a key that still starts the car.
| Model | Key |
|---|---|
| Commodore VR to VZ (1993–2006, not HSV) | Blade only, or a complete key |
| Commodore VE (2006–2013) | Complete key, working key needed |
| Commodore VF (2013–2017) | Turn-key start, working key needed |
| Commodore VF (2013–2017) | Push-button start, working key needed |
Keys may look different to the one you have now.
Other makes and models: ring with the make, model and year and we’ll tell you what we can do.
